Our Courses
CFSC
This class is the foundation of all firearms, with the focus being nonrestricted firearms (ordinary hunting shotguns and rifles and muzzle loaders). ($258.30)
CRFSC
This handgun training class consists of 4-6 hours of hands on practical training, discussion and multimedia presentation. ($192.10)
Prerequisite: CFSC (Within the past 30 days)
OHEP
This class begins with reasons why we hunt and then jumps right into being a safe, successful, responsible, ethical and lawful hunter. ($258.30)
About Big Nick
Welcome to Big Nick Outdoors, an organization consisting of outdoor enthusiasts and cooks dedicated to sharing our knowledge and experience of competitive and recreational shooting and hunting in our most beautiful country. We are an authorized, approved and insured training provider and examiner of three basic classes. Canadian Firearms Safety Courses (non-
restricted and restricted) and the Ontario Hunter Education Program (OHEP).
Our years of shooting and hunting experience shine through in these classes. Our straight forward delivery of both the theory and practical handling components ensure you are well prepared to challenge the tests. There are no live firearms, ammunition, or shooting during any part of the class or practical.
Purchasing A Course
In order to guarantee you seat in the class, please register using this web site and the PayPal portal, if you prefer not to use the portal then your second option is to call me in advance of the class. I will confirm there is space. Then, send an e-transfer to [email protected] with your name and date(s) we confirmed verbally. If you do not use electronic banking, then you can pay with cash in advance of the class. I will only guarantee your spot when payment is received.
Your class will start on the date of the subject line. Class location is 75 Tiverton Court In Markham. When arriving, please drive to the back of the building and come to the training centre door. There is a sign posted on the wall. Please do not park in any reserved spots.
All of my classes start at 8 AM on Saturdays and Sundays. Typically, the non-restricted class requires at least nine hours of in-class training. So if the group decides to take an hour for lunch, The class will typically end at about 6 PM as I Anticipate we will take a few micro-breaks throughout the course of the day.
If you are taking the combined class, the minimum classroom time for the restricted program is four hours. I find this course realistically takes about six hours.
Following each of these classes is a written exam and a practical exam. The written exam takes place as a group but the practical exam is one on one. If you are the first person to finish your written, you will be the first person to participate in the practical, if you are the second person to finish your written you will be the second person to complete your practical…and so on. You need to pass each exam with a score of at least 80%. These marks are very achievable if you work hard in class and pay attention.
Hunter education courses are taught on Sundays. The start time is 8 AM as well. But ends at approximately 5 PM. We typically work through the day and only have a half-hour lunch. At the end of the class, there is an examination that needs to be completed.
Please be sure to bring a picture ID to the class as I need to verify the information on the registration forms. If you are a minor requesting a license (under 18), please be sure to attend the morning with a parent so the minor’s form can be completed.
